A founding Chief Executive Officer Cipla Quality Chemical Industries Limited, Mr. Emmanuel Katongole was elevated to the position of Executive Chairman in November 2013.
Previously, Emmanuel served as Managing Director and shareholder of Quality Chemicals Limited (the local firm that partnered with Cipla to form CiplaQCIL).
With a wealth of experience in senior management and business entrepreneurship, Emmanuel is also the founder of Vero Food Industries-a food and beverage company; a shareholder and director in Tinosoft Ltd-a leading IT firm; and is a member of the Initiative for Global Development (Frontier 100)-a prestigious group that joins the most successful business leaders operating in frontier markets.
Emmanuel has won several business awards besides numerous nominations. He was the East African Winner and representative at the 2013 Ernst and Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in Monte Carlo, bagged the 2012 Africa Business Leadership and the Africa Entrepreneurship Awards, and was a finalist for the East Africa Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 Awards.
He is a Rotarian who has steadily and diligently served his Rotary Club of Muyenga as director, president, country chairperson for Annual Giving, assistant governor, chairperson of the 2010/11 district conference and is now the district governor for Rotary district 9211, which comprises of Tanzania and Uganda.
Emmanuel holds a Master of Arts Degree in Economic Policy and Planning and a Bachelor of Statistics degree, both from Makerere University.
Married with four children, he enjoys reading, swimming, and playing chess.
Mr. Nevin Bradford was appointed Chief Executive Officer, Cipla Quality Chemical Industries Limited, on 26th November 2013. He also doubles as an Executive Director and head of Cipla’s Rest of Africa Business-a portfolio he has been handling prior to this appointment.
A graduate of Cambridge University, Nevin has over 30 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry cutting across consumer health, personal care, branded and generic products. His career profile spans across a range of senior sales, marketing and general management positions in both multinational and generic pharmaceutical companies in Russia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Africa, China and Europe.
Prior to joining Cipla, Nevin was head of Ranbaxy, UK and formerly Managing Director of Ranbaxy’s JV in China-Ranbaxy Guangzhou China Ltd.
Nevin has also spent 17 years with Glaxo in a range of senior commercial roles in Africa (regional Manager), Saudi Arabia (General Manager), Indonesia (Sales and Marketing Director) and Russia (marketing Director).
He has also had stints with Novartis Consumer Health (General Manager Russia), Pharmacia Consumer Health (Area Director Africa, Middle East and Eastern Europe) and E.C De Witt (Commercial Director).
George is a former Deputy Commissioner at the Directorate of Animal Resources in the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries in Uganda.
He has a degree and postgraduate diploma from Makerere University and a master’s and doctorate degree from Imperial College in London.
A founding Director and Chief Finance Officer, Mr. Fredrick Mutebi was the Finance Director at Cipla Quality Chemicals Limited from 2002-2005. Prior to QCL, Fredrick was the Financial Controller at Coopers Uganda from 1994 to 2002.
Frederick holds a BSc Physics and Mathematics degree from Makerere University and a degree in Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Buckingham.
Beth is a co-founder and partner at Capitalworks Investment Management. Beth manages a fund that is a shareholder in CiplaQCIL. Prior to founding Capitalworks, Beth was the Managing Director and Country Head of Morgan Stanley in South Africa and had responsibility for the Sub-Saharan region. Beth has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Science degree from the University of Oxford (New College).
Prior to founding TLG Capital, Zain was an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs in the New Markets division focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa. He has also worked at Merrill Lynch as well as HSBC where he has gained a wealth of experience in investing in African markets.
Zain holds a Master’s degree in Finance from Cass Business School and currently sits on a number of investee companies’ Boards.
Chandru has nearly 25 years of experience in leading and managing bio pharmaceutical businesses across diverse geographies and segments. He has a proven track record having managed P&Ls and Strategy and Business Development globally.
His varied experience straddles start-ups, acquired companies and multiple product segments. In his last role as SVP – International for Lupin, he headed business operations spread across emerging markets in Asia, Latin America and Africa with directorial responsibility in 5 subsidiaries. Prior to this, Chandru has worked with Wockhardt as General Manager for emerging markets.
At Cipla, he has played a leadership role in its transformation from a “partner led” business model to a business that stands on innovation and meaningful commercial presence in key markets driving initiatives across emerging markets, biotechnology, specialty and consumer health.
Chandru is an alumnus of IIT Mumbai with an MBA from IIFT New Delhi.
Before that he worked for Mylan as Vice President & Managing Director for Mylan in South Africa from 2008.
He was based in China from July 2005, where he held the position of Marketing Director for AstraZeneca, China. He successfully built and launched brands that were market leaders in China in the areas of cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, respiratory and anaesthesia.
Prior to this assignment, he spent four and half years within global oncology marketing based in the UK, first as a Strategy & Portfolio Manager and then as Global Brand Manager. This global experience allowed him to lead and deliver a number of innovative and novel programmes to support the US, Asian & European market launches.
He started and ran Elements Akademia, an award winning social enterprise for 7 years before that.
Prior to that, he worked in Corporate Finance with Procter & Gamble for 7 years, as Deputy CFO- P&G India and M&A Head.
He worked as an expatriate across various countries: Japan, Philippines, Singapore and South Africa and across various business units (Beautycare, FMCG, Pharmaceuticals etc.)
Nihsant has part-time teaching experience (to graduate, post-graduate students and adult learners) in various countries and has taught Economics, Finance, Strategy, Accounting etc. in IIMs, NUS Singapore and SP Jain Dubai.
His Specialties are in: Startup, M&A, Corporate Finance, Organization Building and Operating B-schools.
Ranjana has over three decades of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in the USA, held senior leadership positions with increasing responsibilities in various organizations. She worked for Branded and generic companies such as Watson/Actavis, Endo/Dupont Pharmaceuticals, Zenith Goldline, Thames Pharmacol, with extensive experience in dealing with regulatory bodies such as FDA, MHRA, ANVISA, MCC to name a few.
Ranjana served in the role of Sr. Vice President of Global Quality for Watson/Actavis Pharmaceuticals, was responsible for world‐wide quality. Prior to Watson/Actavis, Ranjana worked as Vice President of Quality and Compliance at Endo Pharmaceuticals had the privilege of creating commercial QA and R&D Quality Assurance department. Products ranged from solids (mainly narcotics), patches, suppositories, devices. She was actively involved in Pre‐clinical and Phase 1 through Phase 3 trials.
Ranjana has a Doctorate in Health Administration from the University of Phoenix. She has also done her MBA from Dowling College. She did her Bachelors of Science (Honors) in Chemistry from Mithibai College of Arts and Chauhan Institute of Science, Mumbai. Post Graduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical & Chemical Analysis from Sophia College. Leadership course in Pharmaceutical and Biologics from Harvard University.
She has been published a few times, taught/lectured in many pharmaceutical courses/seminars on various topics (validation, PQR/APR, Compliance issues etc.).
She loves Reading & Dancing and is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer.
Ranjana was awarded the Rising Star award in 2006 by Healthcare Business Association.
